• RTA And Shaikha Rawdha Learning Initiative Launch Student-Oriented Traffic Contest

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with the Learning Skills Development Initiative, supported by Shaikha Rawdha Bint Ahmed Bin Juma Al Maktoum, has launched a traffic contest aimed at nurturing students innovative and creative skills, and orienting them towards boosting the traffic safety in Dubai Emirate.

Engineer Maitha Bin Udai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, underlined the importance of partnership and cooperation among all public and private entities in developing programs and initiatives targeting children and students to train them on innovative & creative concepts in support of positive traffic attitudes in Dubai. Bin Udai hailed the key role played by Shaikha Rawdha Bint Ahmed Bin Juma Al Maktoum in supporting learning skills

“The contest aims at realizing the objectives of both parties through a joint strategic partnership. While Shaikha Rawdha’s initiative seeks to furnish students with learning skills of the 21st century, the RTA joins hands by seeking to disseminate knowledge and inculcate ideas relating to raising traffic awareness amongst students,” said Bin Udai.

“The idea of the contest is based on capitalizing on the growing social media-savvy students with the aim of engaging their attention and skills in traffic awareness issues. The contest tries to make student activities interactive and nontraditional, since the general trend of Dubai Government focuses on supporting smart applications, including the social media. This drive would uplift the traffic safety level in the local community and diffuse the traffic culture and related issues among 2nd & 3rd cycle students in Dubai schools. It will also nurture creative thinking skills among students by directing their ideas towards reducing traffic accidents rates.

In this context, Dr. Najeeb Mahfoudh, General Manager of Learning Skills Development Initiative, said: “The idea of the contest is based on engaging students in spreading traffic culture and awareness among community members via social media: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Various creative activities, such as writing plays and novels or any other innovative fieldwork, would be sought by the contest. Such concepts are required to be encapsulated into awareness messages disseminated through the social media, targeting community members, particularly students and youngsters.”

“We have started distributing the competition guide, subscription forms and promotional posters in Dubai schools, and we expect that each school to form a 5 to 10 student-team to realize the objectives of the project. Supervisors of participating schools would be subject to induction workshops about the contest. Team members would strive to develop their observation skills and sense of responsibility by running events using their communication skills to deliver the idea,” continued Mahfoudh.

“The deadline for receiving participations is 23 April 2015, and forms will be reviewed by judges on 26 April. Winners will be announced & felicitated in May 2015,” concluded Mahfoudh.
